THE CARLTON WELCOMES GENERAL MANAGER, VICTOR FREEMAN, AND DIRECTOR OF SALES & MARKETING, BONNIE SOMERSTEIN

New York, NY – Gemstone Hotels & Resorts’ Carlton Hotel is pleased to announce the appointment of Victor Freeman to the position of General Manager and Bonnie Somerstein to the position of Director of Sales & Marketing.

Gemstone Hotels & Resorts’ Carlton Hotel is pleased to announce the appointment of Victor Freeman to the position of General Manager and Bonnie Somerstein to the position of Director of Sales & Marketing.  Freeman will be responsible for running the historic hotel and overall, day-to-day operations, while Somerstein will be responsible for sales, marketing and public relations as well as generating revenue for the hotel through room bookings, meetings and conventions and catering events.

Victor Freeman gained valuable experience as General Manager for The Surrey Hotel and Affinia 50, two of New York’s luxury boutique hotels, managing both properties through major renovations while maintaining guest satisfaction, profitability and employee morale.  After successfully overseeing the liquidation of the Surrey Hotel, Freeman moved to the corporate office to begin planning for the repositioning of the “new” Surrey as a luxury 4-Diamond property.  As General Manager for Affinia 50, a 209-room, well known boutique hotel in the heart of midtown Manhattan, Freeman was responsible for the vision, growth, development and future of the company and oversaw the $12 million renovation of the hotel.  Freeman also held positions as Assistant General Manager for The Benjamin, Rooms Division Director for Doral Arrowwood Resort & Conference Center and Front of Office Manager for The Mark Hotel, in New York.

Before joining The Carlton in February 2009, Somerstein worked for Bryant Park Hotel in New York where she directed all sales, marketing and catering activities for the 129-room boutique hotel.  Prior to working at the Bryant Park Hotel, Somerstein was Sales Manager of the Dream Hotel and was an important member of the pre-opening sales team.  Somerstein was responsible for the promotion and solicitation of new corporate group and transient accounts.  Prior to the Dream Hotel, Somerstein was the Director of Catering and Special Events at the Flatotel where she was responsible for promotion and sales of 21,000 square feet of banquet and function space.  In this role, Somerstein will oversee the total sales effort of the Carlton in addition to incorporating marketing initiatives to support sales strategies and activities.

Renowned architect David Rockwell transformed The Carlton on Madison Avenue with a $60 million renovation that was completed in February 2009.  The modernized new look preserves the design-forward elements of the hotel’s historical aesthetic.  A Beaux Arts-style hotel, the Rockwell Group has succeeded in infusing the hotel with an ultra-modern spirit, transforming the lobby, one of the most beautiful spaces in New York City, into a social destination. 

The Carlton, a member of the Preferred Hotel Group, features one of the city’s most beautiful hotel lobbies. The vaulted ceilings, marbled floors, floor-to-ceiling suede paneled walls, soothing waterfall and rich mahogany frame the lobby. Originally designed by Harry Allen Jacobs, and completed in 1904 as The Seville Hotel, The Carlton on Madison serves as a historic reminder of New York’s elegant past.
